ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE
BALLET CLASSES
Ages 7 & older
Our ballet program approaches the classic dance form with creativity and sensitivity to refine the child’s natural ability within the context of ballet technique.
Following the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus from Grade I through to Advanced, the graded classes include free movement and character work, with pointe work for the vocational levels. Students are prepared for optional RAD exams, where The School has earned an impressive record of excellence against international standards. All ballet classes are accompanied by a live pianist.

Ballet Examinations
Students attending more than one ballet class per week may be eligible to participate in RAD Examinations. Instructors will recommend exam candidates based on the dancer's ability, technique, and dedicated work ethic demonstrated during the fall term, to ensure preparedness for a successful exam. Held annually in the spring, these exams require extra training classes and registration fees.
Forms and fee schedule are distributed to appropriate classes and students in the Fall Term.
Required number of classes for RAD examinations:
Grades 1 - 5: two classes a week
Intermediate Levels: three classes a week, including pointe
Advanced Levels: four classes a week, including pointe
Character work is a required component of the RAD grades 1 to 5 examinations. The style is based on the national dances of particular countries that have helped shape some of the major classical ballets of this day. Countries such as Russia, Poland and Hungary in ballets such as Swan Lake, Coppelia and Sleeping Beauty. It holds an extremely important and historical value to a dancer’s training. Students will require additional uniform items for these classes, as described in the Dress Code.
All ballet students and RAD examination candidates are strongly encouraged to take at least one modern dance class per week.
