509 DANCE in the heart of the historic Old Cabbagetown is the perfect rental space in Toronto for dance classes, ballet classes, auditions, rehearsals, photo and film shoots, and more. Among Canada's foremost dance centres, 509 DANCE is a 10,000 square foot complex with four studios, boasting 17'-20' ceiling heights and top-tier sprung marley flooring.

Our studio is the creative home to hundreds of emerging and established dance artists including resident company Fujiwara Dance Inventions, Kenny Pearl's GMD open professional dance classes, the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, and CCDT's annual Resident Guest Artists, which have included Sylvie Bouchard, Hanna Kiel, Louis Laberge-Côté, Ryan Lee, Andrea Nann and Jera Wolfe, among many others.

The studios are available 9:00am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday with limited evening and weekend availability.

Rates starting from $18/hour (+HST). Please note that rental permissions and hours may vary during Toronto's ongoing Covid-19 restrictions and business closures.

Access by TTC:

From College Station or Queens Park Station (Line 1): Eastbound on the 506 Carlton Streetcar to Parliament Street, walk one half-block north on Parliament

From Castle Frank Station (Line 2): Southbound on the 65 Parliament bus to Winchester Street, walk one half-block south on Parliament

Parking: Street Parking on Parliament Street and throughout the surrounding neighbourhood, Green P Parking Lot across from studio (on Aberdeen Avenue)

Building Accessibility: The studio lobby, 509 Dancewear Store, and all four dance studios have barrier-free access. There is one barrier-free washroom* on site. For ease of barrier-free access to dance studios C and D*, please contact us in advance.

*Note: Barrier-free access to studios C & D requires entrance from the rear of the building, while the barrier-free washroom is located in the front of the building (with stairs in between). For renters in need of fully barrier-free access, studio A or B is recommended.

Rental Hours: 9:00am – 4:00pm Monday to Friday. Please note that rental permissions and hours may vary during Toronto's ongoing Covid-19 restrictions and business closures.

Rental Rates: Starting from $18/hour (+HST)

Dance Studio Sizes: 900 – 3300 square feet

Dance Studio Amenities: pianos, congas and drum sets, barres (wall-mounted and portable), mirrors*, audio system (select studios are bluetooth capable), flatscreen TV (HDMI with MacBook adapters provided/AirPlay compatible), chairs (additional chairs and tables may be available upon request)

*Note: When the movable wall is opened to combine studios A & B or studios C & D, mirrors become partially obstructed.

Audio: CD/auxiliary. If your device uses a lightning cable, be sure to bring an AUX adapter. Select audio systems are bluetooth capable. All renters are asked to keep volume to a reasonable level out of respect for artists in adjacent studios.

HVAC: climate control air conditioning and heating to 72 degrees Fahrenheit (operated by building management)

Lobby & Reception: lobby area adjacent to studios A & B with seating for 15, counter with telephone, guest wifi access

Change Rooms: M, F, gender neutral/barrier-free washroom accessible from lobby

Security: 3 live-feed security cameras (1 lobby, 2 exterior at front entrance), alarm-activated emergency exits, office staff on site. Please note that The School of CCDT and 509 DANCE are not responsible for loss of property or theft on premises.

Restaurant/Shops: full services within a one block radius
